Edmond History
Today is May 19th, but let's take a brief look back in time into Edmond history.
The history of Edmond begins with the Indian Territory in 1887. Edmond was originally known as the "Summit" station of the Santa Fe Railroad. A couple of years later, the town of Edmond practically sprang up overnight during the 1889 Oklahoma land rush. Yet even today there is plenty of space as that town grows into a major Oklahoma City suburb.
The City of Edmond is home to the University of Central Oklahoma (UC0) and has the highest per-capita income in the State of Oklahoma.
Edmond residents today enjoy a unique combination of exceptional location, enjoyable climate, and personal lifestyle. This is part of why people refer to Edmond and the "crown jewel" of Oklahoma.

No mention of Edmond history, no matter how small, would be complete without a link to the Edmond Historical Society and Museum. Visit them at 431 S. Boulevard when you're in town. Telephone (405) 340-0078. They even have a children's room for the younger set.
And the Edmond Convention and Visitors Bureau offers more details on Edmond's colorful past in an article titled from Indian territory to today.
